Six SoFla Golfers In Top 5; Fischer, Jarvis win South Florida Open

By Craig Dolch, Special to South Florida PGA

Two majors down, three to go for Jordan Fischer.

The 14-year-old North Fort Myers resident won the South Florida Junior Open by nine shots Friday, July 17 at the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club. It was her second consecutive junior major title in the South Florida PGA after she won last month’s Nicklaus Junior Championship at Lost Tree Club.

Fischer opened with 67 and 73 to take an eight-shot lead into the final round. She closed with another 73 to finish comfortably ahead of Delray Beach's Nicole Yugay (74-222). Miramar's Madyson Gold (68-230) finished third. Gold won the 16-18 division.

Aaron Jarvis of Grand Cayman won the boys overall title, also by nine shots, shooting 71 to finish at 6-under 207. He had a six-shot lead after 36 holes.

“The first two days my ball-striking was good and today it was my putting,” said Jarvis, 17. “This is a nice win for me.”

Jarvis plays for the Cayman Island’s national team. His only hiccup Friday was a double bogey on the final hole he finished just before play was stopped for the second time because of weather.

“I didn’t mind the double just to get the round over with,” Jarvis said.

Jupiter's Sebastian Nachilly (72-216) was second, and North Palm Beach's Tyler Mistretta (72-217) third.

The remaining junior majors on the South Florida PGA schedule are the Patty Berg Junior Championship, July 24-26 at Cypress Lake, the Doral Junior Classic, Aug. 5-7 at Trump Doral, and the South Florida PGA Junior Tour Championship Dec. 5-6.
