Nine From SoFla In Junior PGA Championships Lake Worth's Pano, Miami Lakes’ Clanton Lead The Way

The best junior golfers in the United States trekked to Kentucky for the 45th Junior PGA Championships and South Florida was well represented, with nine golfers in the two divisions.

Lake Worth’s Alexa Pano (above) posted the best overall finish, placing 13th in the girls’ division, contested July 27-30 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Pano led by two after an opening 66, but could not match that excellence the rest of the way, carding 76-75-72 to finish 12 back of Anna Davis of Spring Valley, Calif.

Palm Beach’s Paris Hilinski (78-73-78-76) finished T58. Boca Raton’s Kayla Bryant (79-78) and Delray Beach’s Nicole Yugay (81-84) missed the cut.

Miami Lakes’ Luke Clanton (above) turned in the steadiest performance, shooting 68-72-72-68 to finish T22 on July 12-15 at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington. He also was 12 back of the winner, Caleb Surratt of Indian Trail, N.C.

Boca Raton’s Jay Brooks (70-72-73-69) saved his best for last and climbed on the last day to T38.

Clanton has committed to play at Florida State. Brooks has committed to the University of Florida.

Parkland’s Andres Barraza (76-72), West Palm Beach’s Allan Kournikova (78-76) and Fort Lauderdale’s Brett White (81-81) missed the cut.
