Sunny Kim of Queens, N.Y., scored a sweep Wednesday, July 8 in a Minor League Golf Tour tournament on the East course at Indian Spring Country Club in Boynton Beach.
Kim edged Rodrigo Lee of Brazil 64-65 with each making four birdies on each nine, the difference being a bogey at the par-4 14th hole by the latter. The win was worth $700 from the $3,220 purse plus an additional $70 in the skins game. This raised Kim’s MLGT career earnings to $283,154.
Combined with a 67 Monday on the Estate course at PGA National and Tuesday’s 68 at Abacoa Golf Club, Kim had the best 54-hole score of the week, 199, and earned an extra $1,000 toward a Monday qualifying entry fee later this year or in 2021 on either the PGA Tour or the Korn Ferry Tour.
Lee received $500 from the main purse and $232 from an optional bonus pool. In five starts since joining the MLGT June 29, Lee has a tie for first, a solo first, T-3, T-4 and Wednesday’s runner-up finish.
Next on the MLGT schedule is a 36-hole event Monday and Tuesday on the Fazio course at PGA National.
